SALMONELLA OUTBREAKS

Major outbreaks of salmonella infection are caused by the concomitant carriage of more than 1 Salmonella serotype and result from ingestion of contaminated food or water.

Raw poultry, beef, and eggs,These foods can be exposed to dangerous germs such as salmonella during the slaughtering or cross-contamination process through food preparation.


Uncut fruits and vegetables: Surface contamination can come from contact with water or soil contaminated by sewage or manure, pollutants in the environment, parasites such as Toxoplasma gondii, or bacteria that can cause food poisoning.


Processed foods: tainted with rubbish during processing-CANNOT be halal.

Pet foods and animal contact - Handling pet foods can expose pet owners to Salmonella as well as coming into direct or indirect contact with reptiles or birds which carry the bacterium.


Symptoms of a salmonella infection (salmonellosis) include diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps. Signs start six hours to six days
